Welcome to the USS Magellan!

The year is 2391. Much has changed in the nearly twenty years since the Dominion War. Although the Federation and her allies have largely recovered from the effects of that conflict, they find themselves amid a rather ambiguous socio-political landscape that is ever-changing. A catastrophic natural disaster unlike any that had ever been encountered before brought chaos to the Romulan Star Empire. An ultra-nationalist movement has worked steadily to undermine the civilian government of the Cardassian Union. Increasing conflict with a resurgent Tal Shiar has strained the already thinly-stretched resources of the Federation Alliance.

There are many who feel the Federation has reached an important crossroads, beyond which lie two different paths. Some are calling for us to take a more aggressive stance when it comes to dealing with our less diplomatic neighbors. They would see us rally our allies, strengthen our borders, and assert our place as a dominant power. Others are urging we remain true to our founding ideals of peaceful exploration, of seeking out new life and establishing rapport. Experience has taught us it is the latter which will always result in the greater long-term sustainability. That is why we believe so strongly in our mission: to push the boundaries of our understanding through exploration, to preserve the delicate balance that currently exists through our presence, and to nurture prosperous relationships with our neighbors that will lead us into the future.

» Captain Returns from Semi-Leave of Absence

Posted on Fri Aug 14th, 2015 @ 10:06am by Captain Anthony Watson in Out of Character

Some of you may have noticed a diminished level of activity from me over the past several days. This has been due to my being on personal retreat without reliable internet access.

According to our simulation policy regarding Leaves of Absence, a diminished ability to participate over the course of only a few days constitutes a semi-Leave of Absence. While I did go through the proper procedure of changing my status on the site to "Leave of Absence", I did not take the additional step of notifying you as members of this simulation. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused those trying to reach me or to continue any post-writing we had started before my leave.

Everyone is encouraged to take whatever time away from simming they need to maintain an appropriate balance or to attend to the needs of our everyday lives in the real world. Without this freedom, we end up burning ourselves out, thereby ruining the experience for ourselves and for everyone we're simming with.

Our Leave of Absence Policy lays out some important definitions and guidelines that should help us to communicate when taking this time away. Players are expected and encouraged to notify me when they need some time away so that we can make the appropriate accommodations for them and for the sim. My experience this week has taught me I, too, need to be accountable in my leave-taking. Therefore, I will make it my commitment to you to notify this simulation whenever I need to take time so that you all won't be caught off-guard.

If anyone has any questions, comments, or concerns about this, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Respectfully,

Captain Anthony Watson
Commanding Officer

3) Ten Forward on Deck 10, Primary Hull (Saucer Section) has been re-designated Oscar's Place (Ten Forward) to reflect the specific ownership of that establishment on the Magellan.
