Members of The Federation Alliance

The United Federation of Planets (often abbreviated as UFP and commonly referred to as the Federation) is an interstellar federal republic, composed of planetary governments that have agreed to exist semi-autonomously under a single central government based on the principles of universal liberty, rights, and equality. Unlike many other powers in the region, the members of the Federation each share their knowledge and resources in peaceful cooperation and space exploration.

The Federation is one of the most powerful interstellar states in known space and encompasses the largest region of space when compared with its rivals, with over 150 member worlds. Unlike its imperial rivals, who derive power from a single species subjugating other races, the Federation's various member worlds join willingly and are equals in the Federation's democratic society. Starfleet was incorporated at the very birth of the Federation as a peace-keeping and humanitarian armada, in addition to maintaining exploratory, scientific, diplomatic, and defense functions.

The Klingon Empire (also referred to as the Imperial Klingon Empire or Klingon Imperial Empire) is the official state of the Klingon people, founded in the 9th century by Kahless the Unforgettable, who first united the Klingon homeworld of Qo'noS. Since then the Klingon Empire has expanded its sphere of influence by conquering numerous systems and incorporating them into the Empire.

Non-Klingon subjects of the Klingon Empire are called "jeghpu'wI'", a status greater than slave, but less than citizen.

The Romulan Republic is a major regional power which existed throughout much of the 2380s as a separate entity in opposition to the Romulan Star Empire. It encompassed a considerable number of frontier Romulan worlds as well as the people who inhabited them. The Imperial State is known for its less xenophobic character and policies which developed increasingly friendly relations with the Federation.

The Romulan Republic replaced the Romulan Star Empire as primary representative government of the Romulan people in 2390 with support from both the Federation and the Klingon Empire. They are a continuation of Romulan participation which has been present since 2374.

The Gorn Hegemony is the state government of the Gorn, and is a monarchy ruled by the Imperator of the Gorn Hegemony. Whilst many other civilizations have called it by a variety of names in the past - Gorn Alliance, Gorn Kingdom, Gorn Empire and Gorn Confederation amongst them - the Gorn Hegemony is the proper name for the organization.

The Cardassian Union (also referred to as the Cardassian Empire) is the official governing body of the Cardassian people, headed by the civilian Detapa Council and the military Central Command, based on the capital world of Cardassia Prime. The Cardassian Union was once regarded as one of the great powers in the Alpha Quadrant, though it's status as such is now a controversial subject following the Dominion War.

The Ferengi Alliance is the Ferengi state, located in the Alpha Quadrant. Built around the principle of extreme capitalism, the Ferengi Alliance is dedicated to the encouragement of economic development and increased wealth for its citizenry; its governing constitution is the Ferengi Bill of Opportunities, and its culture operates on the basis of the principles outlined in the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition.
